A borough in south-west London, England is the Merton London Borough /ˈmɜːrtən/. Mitcham, Morden and Wimbledon, of which Wimbledon is the largest, are Merton's commercial centres that are main.

From the historic Merton which was centred on the area now known as South Wimbledon, the borough derives its name.

Formed under the LGA 1963 in 1965 by the merger of Mitcham, Wimbledon and the Merton and Morden District, all formerly within Surrey, was the borough.

Chosen as a compromise that was acceptable, between Mitcham and Wimbledon following a dispute over the name of the new borough, was Merton.

Particularly in the Colliers Wood and Mitcham districts, a lot of filming for former police drama The Bill took place in Merton. The Wimbledon Times, from Wimbledon Guardian changed name recently, is the main local newspaper in Merton.

Found that of 19 year olds in Merton, 40% lack qualifications of level 3 was Poverty Profile of London (a report in 2017 by the New Policy Institute and Trust for London).
